Made-from-Scratch Meals with Heart, Flavor, and Purpose
One of the most exciting changes in senior living today is what’s happening in the kitchen—and at Highgate, we’ve been ahead of the curve. We’ve always taken pride in serving meals that are both nourishing and enjoyable, and our commitment to exceptional dining continues to grow.
Much of that credit goes to Khalid Iraqui, Highgate’s Director of Culinary Services. A Paris-trained chef with more than 20 years of global experience in fine restaurants and hotels, Khalid brings culinary excellence—and heart—to every Highgate kitchen. As he puts it, “This is where I can actually make a difference.”
When you catch the scent of onions, garlic, and herbs sautéing in the air, or hear the hum of chopping and sizzling behind the scenes, you know something special is being prepared from scratch. Khalid calls it “organized chaos”—the kind that results in meals that are not only health-conscious, but truly satisfying.
And yes, we believe dessert is part of the experience. You’ll find sweet treats to savor every day, including delicious sugar-free options—all made with care and attention to detail.
Dining That Fits Your Routine—Not the Other Way Around
At Highgate, choice isn’t just a value—it’s a way of life. With all-day, restaurant-style dining available from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., you can enjoy your meals on your schedule—not ours.
Start your morning with your favorite signature breakfast and choose from fresh entrée options at lunch and dinner—each thoughtfully prepared to balance nutrition and flavor. Here, dining is about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about flexibility, flavor, and the freedom to enjoy every meal, your way.
Where Residents Lead the Table
From daily meals to special traditions, our culinary program is guided by the voices, tastes, and creativity of our residents. Each month, residents look forward to our signature London-style afternoon tea—a cherished moment to gather, connect, and enjoy something sweet together.
Resident involvement also plays a key role in shaping our everyday dining experience. Residents help select menu options for our Signature Always Available menu, ensuring that familiar favorites and comforting classics remain accessible. Many beloved resident recipes are thoughtfully incorporated into our offerings, bringing personal heritage and shared memories directly to the table.
Our commitment to resident-directed dining extends beyond the dining room and into the garden. Originating in our Highgate Vancouver community in 2014, the Growing Groceries program was created by a group of gardening-loving residents and team members and continues to flourish across our organization. Together, residents and culinarians plan, plant, tend, and harvest an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs from our courtyards. These homegrown ingredients are donated to local food banks, showcased in cooking demonstrations, and used in our meals—bringing purpose to each day while giving us meaningful opportunities to give back.
30 years in your community
I don’t like to talk about why our food is better. I prefer to bring people into our kitchens. You can smell the difference.
