We Cater to Each Individual's Needs

No two seniors are alike. Every individual has a different life story, different interests, different health issues and different needs. That’s why at Highgate Senior Living, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Our senior care services are customized for as much as people need and not more than they want.

It’s not unusual, for instance, for a couple living at Highgate to have completely different needs. The wife may have Alzheimer’s while the husband struggles with heart disease. So the wife may live in The Cottage, our Memory Care community, and the husband in The Manor, our Assisted Living community. This way, they both get the care they need but can be together as often as they like.

Couples. Singles. Together. Or alone. It’s whatever works best for each individual

Building Strong Relationships with Care Partners and Residents

No matter how our residents choose to live, the care they receive is uniquely Highgate. Our specially trained care partners work together with residents, families and physicians to decide on the best program for each person. We place a high value on the relationships that form between our care partners and residents, as this close bond greatly enhances each resident’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. To this end, we assign a preferred care partner to the same group of residents every day that he or she works. And on days off, the same person covers their group. Highgate’s preferred care partner approach helps us to build a stable and consistent foundation of care.

When a higher level of care is called for, our team of clinical professionals steps in to help. They can handle almost anything, even complex medical issues and severe cognitive impairment. These may include:

  • Diabetic care
  • Oxygen management
  • Intimate care given privately
  • Wound dressing
  • Tube feeding
  • Catheter monitoring
  • Ostomy management
  • Injectable medications
  • Two-person transfers
  • Short-term stays
  • Hospital recovery
  • Hospice services

“There’s no reason why someone with high needs should live in a sterile, clinical environment when they can live a beautiful, rewarding life here.”

– Marcie Suppe, RN and Director of Resident Services, Highgate Senior Living

We strive to create an environment where, no matter what their health issues, residents can maintain the highest level of independence possible. Having choices is empowering. When people can make their own decisions, rather than have them made for them, they are stronger and happier.

Fortunately, an evolution is taking place in the senior living industry. Aging is no longer about loneliness, loss, and old folks homes. It’s now about engagement, community, and living life to the fullest. This is not only the future of senior care, but the here and now at Highgate.
