Memory Care Cottage Amenities

When you walk into our Cottage at Highgate it just feels like home. The Cottage takes you back to that time; back to those cozy, comfortable, belonging feelings of an era gone by all in a secure setting. The floor is softly carpeted throughout. Pretty artwork and old time memorabilia adorn the walls giving you a photograph of the past. Small nooks off the hallways offer private areas in which to explore, wander, or relax.

The living room area has comfortable chairs and sofas with a warm patina and style. The dining room - where formal “tea” is served every afternoon - is bright and cheerful. Residents have easy access to a secure outdoor garden courtyard where they can walk or sit and enjoy the fresh air, the flowers and the birds. And, just like home, friends and family are always welcome to visit.

Memory Care apartments start at $2,700.We offer Hospice Care and end of life support so a resident may stay at Highgate. Often there is no need for a nursing home.

Unique Features of the Memory Care Cottage:

• Secure key-pad entries
• Private Suites and Shared Suites with full private bathrooms with Large walk-in showers
• Full family kitchen where residents can help prepare food and take part in the activities of dining
• A wonderful Jacuzzi tub that soothes aching backs
• Bathrooms in each resident suit have lights that turn on automatically as resident enters, and off when they leave
• Interior hallways are painted to assist residents in way-finding

• ADA signs that indicate restrooms in common areas using words as well as visuals to assist some residents in independent toileting

Service Program:

• Full time Registered Nurse
• "Best Friends" program which allows us to learn about each resident by assigning a “Best Friend” staff member to each resident. The “Best Friend” obtains complete history and creates an individualized program
• Staff Consultant available for referral on individual resident behavior approaches
• Activity Program designed to maintain residents independence and socialization
• Exercise, music, and aromatherapy are part of our therapeutic program -often replacing the need for drug intervention for behaviors
• Regular review and oversight by our Registered Nurse for each resident’s health needs
• Housekeeping, meals, snacks, utilities, activities, included in basic program

There are three levels of care in the Cottage covering the social/emotional needs of the resident as well as the physical care.

The appropriate Level of Care is determined by the Assessment which measure the amount of staff time required to meet each resident’s care plan. Enhanced Care beyond Level 3 is intensive assistance to accommodate the emotional or physical needs of the resident.

Service change may occur following a scheduled review by our RN or be triggered by a change in the resident’s health status. If an increase or decrease in service is indicated, we will schedule a meeting with the responsible family member.
