All
the comforts of home … and then some.
Imagine a place where you can have everything you
always liked – or wanted – in your own home – the
garden, the fireplace, the privacy and independence,
the feeling of space and the coziness of special
little areas. And mostly, the feeling that this
is home.
But with no worries about how to maintain it all.
And with the assurance that help, assistance or
special services are there when you need them, along
with interesting activities, delicious meals, and
companionship.
This is Highgate.
Part of what makes it unique is the size and the
design. You won’t find any long corridors or confusing
layouts. What you will find in an easy stroll around
our Manor is a family-style dining room, several
activity areas and gathering places, including a
library lounge, a “community kitchen” with adjoining
“family room” where residents – and guests - come
to join in cooking or just socialize. And along
the way, a number of cozy small sitting areas, where
residents often take a quiet moment or meet with
a neighbor.
Throughout
this beautiful Highgate Home we’ve added many touches
that create a warm place to live. But much of the
personality of Highgate comes from the individualized
way all residents bring their own personality, style,
furnishings, to their own place.
The focal point of Ruth’s suite is a large
china cabinet full of ornaments, knickknacks
and other memorabilia.
Dora’s suite reflects her tradition of having
friends in for coffee, tea, or just a chat.
She has a table always set to be a lively gathering
place … as it often is.
Lionel and Marg share their suite with their
large cat and small dog.
Independence, involvement, interaction
…
it’s an individual thing.
Some people like to garden, cook, do crafts, or
play games. Some like to be busy all the time. Some
simply like to take it easy. Most like to balance
socializing with privacy and quiet. At Highgate,
we offer activities, outings, and special events
on a regular basis. But we avoid overloading our
residents with a schedule that sounds like summer
camp. Our residents can choose to do what they’ve
always liked to do, pursue new interests, or be
part of the spontaneous social life that is part
of living at Highgate. It’s all here, and it’s all
a matter of choice.
Adele likes bingo, bridge, and being with
other people. She’s got it.
Frank discovered a love of painting that
neither he- nor his family – knew he had.
Joan’s favorite pastime is having her grandchildren
in to bake cookies.
Care when needed, privacy when wanted, individualized
attention always.
Our staff is hired not only for their skills and
training, but for the passion and compassion they
have in working with seniors. Then, they also receive
additional specialized training from our own Highgate
professionals.
And it shows, in everything they do. Every day.
With everyone who lives here.
Again, it’s about being small in size, which means
that every staff member knows and relates to each
resident – their likes and dislikes, tastes and
distastes, interests, personality, and quirks. They
stay in tune with any changing needs of each individual
so that care levels can be adjusted as needed. This
means we can help decide on the program that works
best for you, give knowledgeable input into it regularly,
and you only pay for the services and/or assistance
needed.
Fred lives very independently, but just
needs reminders to take his medications.
Donna needs assistance with personal needs
such as bathing and dressing, and it’s there
for her – discreetly and privately.
Irma’s family now knows that she will have
wonderful home-cooked meals, enjoy the company
of others, and also have emergency staff nearby
ready to help.
We stay aware of all the latest care techniques,
and are constantly searching for new ways to enhance
the lives of our Highgate residents which we share
with their families. Our registered nurse oversees
a knowledgeable care staff who strive to provide
exceptional service, 24 hours a day.
