Bellingham Assisted Living | Memory & Dementia Care

Assisted Living at Highgate Senior Living at Bellingham, Washington is offered in a handsome 'Manor House' providing assisted living for older adults as well as separate/secure memory care for those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

Entering Highgate gives you the feeling of walking into a cozy country Inn, nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood but with personal services that take care of your every need.

Highgate is conveniently located near Bellis Fair Mall, Costco, and St. Joseph's Hospital as well as convenient to banking, churches, shopping, doctors and medical clinics, and community events. Many of our residents enjoy the weekly performances at the Mt. Baker Theatre, or activities at the Senior Center.

The 'Manor' at Highgate is a smaller apartment community and because of the cozy size it's easier to move about the building for meals and activities and to meet and interact with other residents.

Residents have a choice of a spacious studio, alcove, one bedroom, or one bedroom apartment suite complete with kitchenette, refrigerator, microwave and a 3 piece bathroom with a large walk-in shower. You are free to furnish and decorate your new apartment as you wish and small pets are welcome so your new surroundings will immediately feel like home.

We provide a continuum of care that can accommodate changing needs of a senior adult:

  • Assisted living for those needing help with activities of daily living and limited nursing services
  • Enhanced Care for the declining Senior needing full assistance and support
  • Our secure Memory Care Cottage provides personalized support and the security needed for persons with memory decline.
Convenient Design
The Manor at Highgate is a smaller apartment community. Our smaller size is warm and welcoming with beautiful landscaped gardens and courtyards. Due to the cozy size of our community, it is easier for our residents to independently find their way around the building for meals and activities…and to meet and interact with other residents. Our residents are encouraged to spend much of their time in the common areas of our community as most research indicates that socialization is the most important key in slowing down decline due to aging.

At Highgate, we provide an array of areas in our building to interest and delight residents and families alike.
  • A luxurious Spa where a resident can be pampered with a massage or spa bath and indulge in therapeutic aromatherapy
  • Cozy and private fireplace nooks where a resident can curl up
  • Game rooms to keep minds challenged
  • Arts and crafts areas
  • Television room
  • A beautifully appointed grand dining room.

Of course, our residents can always be pampered in the lovely Highgate Beauty/Barber Shop.

Specialized Assisted Living Environment
Highgate offers a unique Program…called Life Enhancement that is specifically designed to create a day...every day...for the older adult. It is due to our unique programming that an aging adult needing assistance will generally thrive in our elegant, non-institutional, and less restricted environment. At Highgate the every day life of a resident is enhanced and structured with:

  • Active Participation in familiar music activities
  • Opportunity and encouragement to complete mentally challenging tasks
  • Aromatherapy and spa events designed to rejuvenate or relax depending on the need
  • Baking and cooking- to trigger fond memories
  • Woodworking and crafts to keep the creative part of the mind alive
  • Gardening, potting, and flower arranging
  • Daily exercise class as well as walking and dancing
Our Programming is Based on Current Research as research has demonstrated that aging adults who socialize and participate in these types of events will stay vital longer… and decline much more slowly… than their peer who is isolated and living alone. Meals and
Hydration
At Highgate, our residents are treated like royalty in our finely appointed dining room. They are presented with choices at all three meals from which they are welcome to select their favorite “home-style” cuisine. At Highgate, we know that mealtime is an important part of the day…both socially and nutritionally. Additionally, we understand that dehydration is the underlying cause of 90% of hospitalizations for older adults…so we provide plenty of opportunity for our residents to keep hydrated by providing a beverage bar as well as always offering a favorite beverage during or after each hourly activity.

The Highgate Team
At Highgate, we believe our most important ingredient is our staff. From our nursing department, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, and our dietary department we pride ourselves in hiring exceptionally caring people who have chosen to provide loving care to our residents. Highgate is unique in the fact that we employ professional individuals and then we highly train them in the “stages of decline” due to aging. Therefore residents, families, and staff have the best resources available when problems arise.

We spend our lives searching for comfort, security, and a feeling of belonging. For an aging adult, these basic human needs are no less important. Actually, At Highgate Senior Living, we believe they are more so. Each resident’s individual capabilities are encouraged, their inabilities understood, no matter what the level of care required. They are encouraged to enjoy each and every day to the fullest extent of their abilities - with independence, privacy, friendship, dignity and love. At Highgate, our goal is to be known in the community we serve as:  Welcome to the Comforts of Home.....Welcome to Highgate
